Boost Your Energy
With shorter days and colder weather, fatigue and a lack of energy are among the most common complaints. Here are some ways to increase your energy.
Get up and out. The first move is the hardest, but each step gets easier. Get off the couch, out of bed or away from the TV. Go out with friends, shop, volunteer, start a new project or set a new goal. A mental kick-start is half the battle toward better energy.
Exercise. It almost guarantees that you’ll sleep more soundly. It gives your cells more energy to burn, circulates oxygen and causes your body to release hormones that can make you feel energized.
Hydrate. Hydration is an easy and inexpensive way to increase energy. Drink water throughout the day. Add lemon, lime or orange slices for zing.
Eat a healthy breakfast. It kick-starts your metabolism.
Eat protein. A lack of protein can result in fatigue. Protein takes longer than carbohydrates to break down, providing longer-lasting energy.
Go easy on caffeine. Caffeine increases alertness and can sharpen your mind. But to get the energizing effects of caffeine, you have to use it sparingly. Consuming too much or too late in the day can cause insomnia.
