3 Requirements for Successful Change

A brand new year means brand new goals. Success in making lifestyle changes of any kind requires three things: structure, support and tools.

Whether your goal is to get fit, eat healthier, lose weight, stop smoking, save money or learn something new, you’ll struggle without those three things. But with a plan that includes all three, you can succeed.

Structure. Structure involves a program or routine. It requires a time and place (an appointment) and a framework (steps to reach the goal). Examples could include weekly meetings, progress tracking or working one-on-one with a professional.

Support. We need to be connected to stay motivated, challenged and inspired. Have someone in your corner: a champion cheering for you.

Tools. Tools are tangible. Some health and fitness examples include an eating plan, a workout routine, education sessions, the right attire and shoes, exercise equipment and training. But without structure and support, tools don’t bring success. Even the best exercise shoes won’t ensure better fitness.
